Why Rachael Ray’s Charred Scallion Pesto Recipe Has People Talking

“We’re going out with charred scallion pesto,” the food TV veteran says to start. The Instagram video cuts to the stove, where Ray sprays a hot grill pan with cooking spray and tosses the green onions. Meanwhile, she pours a bag of pasta into a pot of boiling water. In the food processor, she zests and squeezes a lemon, adds toasted pine nuts and pistachios, tops it all off with the herbs and garlic, and steps aside.

“John is coming,” she shouts as her husband, John Cusimano, appears. “Pulse, pulse, pulse, pulse, pulse,” she orders. Ray drains the pasta, saves some of the “starchy water” and tells John to add the cheese. She chops the charred green onions, then adds a cup of pasta water to the cooked pasta. she says, returning to the processor.

The meal looks almost ready, but things are just getting started on Instagram. “I love you girl, but #1 is your husband, not your soldier or employee,” one follower wrote, adding, “Calm down sis.” Another fan opines, “Amazing as always. But, girl, you gave us 30 minutes to 30 seconds. I don’t think I can make that happen.” Then there’s the commentator who just loves “watching you and John cook together!” Whichever way you toss it, judging by the end result, this noodle dish seems worth it.
