True Made Foods launches a range of authentic and innovative barbecue sauces and a new brand identity

Their new barbecue sauces and new label design make True Made Foods a niche player in the food industry into an emerging power that could change the way condiments and sauces are made in America forever.

In today’s ever-changing food landscape, we have cauliflower in our pizza crust and chickpeas in our pasta and now, thanks to True Made Foods, we have butternut squash and carrots in our ketchup and barbecue sauce! Together, True Made Foods and Ed recently launched three new barbecue sauce flavors to complement their current low-sugar, vegetarian Kansas City-style sauce. Stay true to Ed mitchell A barbecue heritage, True Made Foods’ first new barbecue sauces are all from Carolina – an East Carolina style, a Caroline Red and one Caroline’s Gold. All of their new sauces contain no added sugar, artificial or refined sweeteners of any kind and use the same blend of carrots and butternut squash to add all the sweetness needed. Each of the recipes are authentic regional recipes that are true to the heritage and traditions of their particular barbecue region.

Along with the launch, True Made Foods changed its labels. These new labels are starting to hit the shelves February 2020. The new sauces will also all be presented and sold in Ed mitchell new barbecue restaurant in Raleigh, North Carolina. The restaurant, called “Preserve”, is scheduled to open in May / June of this year (2020).

Founder and CEO of True Made Foods, Abe kamarck, explains the thinking behind the new labels –

“We always knew we had to update our labels and start creating ‘families’ of brands, with a common theme to tie everything together. New barbecue sauces have helped move this forward. For our new visual identity, we had the chance to work with the famous brand agency JKR when we were part of the MARS Seeds of Change accelerator last year. JKR immediately recognized the potential of True Made Foods to be the next “American Icon,” and they probably know what they’re talking about since they’re responsible for some of America’s most iconic brands, like Budweiser and Dunkin. With this load we worked with Austindesign firm, Brandarella, to create an iconic new look for the 21st century. We needed a very American but also modern visual identity and we wanted to make it personal and linked to our founding history. The outline of the shield on each bottle has been influenced by the shield on the front of the Navy Wings. I was a Navy helicopter pilot, so the shield ties into my service without overshadowing the real star – the sauces. The new labels are tied to our commitment to serving and demonstrating how True Made Foods is just the next extension of this service. “

Ed mitchell also served in the military and is a Vietnam veteran. Abe and Ed both believe there is no better service than gathering people around a table and feeding Americans amazing, healthy food.


KC-STYLE less sugar BBQ sauce
This is the original True Made Foods barbecue sauce, naturally sweetened with carrots and butternut squash and 1/3 the added sugar of top brands. As the most ubiquitous style of barbecue sauce, Kansas City-style barbecue sauce is what most Americans think of when they think of barbecue. KC-Styles are traditionally thick, smoky and very sweet because this sauce was designed to be brushed on the ribs. In traditional KCStyle sauces, the sauce is made from a tomato or ketchup base, then sweetened with brown sugar or molasses. Ed mitchell and True Made Foods has resurrected a real Caroline’s Gold recipe and naturally sweetened it with their signature blend of real apples, butternut squash and carrots. CAROLINE RED barbecue sauce without sugar
Most Americans are unaware of the strong division in North Carolina between the East and the West of the State. A line crosses the state, passing through the city of the Capitol, Raleigh, and the split is known to cause divorces and fights. In the West, BBQ sauce is red thanks to the addition of tomato, and pulled pork is only made from pork shoulder. These Carolina Red BBQ sauces are also known as Lexington or Piedmontese. The new visual identity is the result of months of work resulting from the selection of True Made Foods and participation in the MARS Seeds of Change accelerator, close work with the Whole Foods Category Manager and the work carried out by Austinbased design firm, Brandarella. The goal was to position True Made Foods as the next American icon and to represent the culinary traditions of the past as an icon of the future.
