Tofu Marinade Recipe – How To Make Tofu Marinade

PICTURED: ERIK BERNSTEIN; FOOD STYLING: ERIKA JOYCE

This sweet and salty tofu marinade is loaded with pantry staples and reminds us of barbecue sauce with a spicy twist. 😋 Perfect for baked, grilled or pan-fried tofu, this recipe is a great base for all your favorite tofu dinners.

It is important to prepare your tofu before marinating it; the goal is to squeeze as much liquid out of the tofu as possible so it can soak up the marinade. That’s why we choose extra firm tofu. The best way to get rid of all that moisture is to freeze your tofu until it’s solid, thaw it, then gently squeeze out the remaining liquid. (For more on this method, see June’s Baked Tofu Recipe.) If you’re short on time, simply squeeze or squeeze out as much liquid as you can before marinating.

When it comes to cutting tofu, anything goes! For smaller cubes, it’s best to marinate in a resealable bag so you can easily turn the bag over to make sure the marinade soaks in evenly.
