I love a good sandwich! Whether it’s for breakfast, lunch or dinner, you can find one that’s right for you. If you love sandwiches like me, you MUST TRY this French dip, grilled cheese and Cuban sandwich!

Ham salad

I like a good variation on the classic chicken or egg salad. I especially like this ham salad recipe because it’s a great way to use up any leftover ham I might have! In fact, sometimes I’ll plan my meals with that in mind for the day after making a ham. It’s so easy and cool to do. Not to mention that I can add it to my favorite bread, voila, I have a delicious sandwich myself!

If you have 10 minutes and some ham on hand, you can have this ham salad ready in no time. Eat it plain or add it to bread. Either way, it will be so delicious! The mixture of ham, mayonnaise, eggs, spices and fresh lemon juice is the most amazing combination! In fact, it’s a meal my kids love to eat. You know they love it when they are looking forward to more than the fancy ham meal from the night before!

Ingredients for the ham salad

This recipe is so easy and all you have to do is throw in the ingredients and mix them up! See the recipe card at the bottom of the article for ingredient measurements.

  • Ham: I use a food processor to chop my ham. But I also used cubed ham that I had on hand too.
  • Boiled eggs: Boil and peel them before starting this recipe.
  • Mayonnaise: Classic in a ham salad recipe, mayo combines all the ingredients together.
  • Celery: Cut it into small pieces before mixing it.
  • Onion: I love the flavor this onion brings to this recipe!
  • Taste: A classic ingredient in these types of salad recipes.
  • Mustard: You can use regular or spicy mustard, the choice is yours.
  • Salt and pepper: These are added to taste.
  • Parsley: This flavor makes the salad taste so good.
  • Lemon: You can use bottled lemon juice but I prefer it fresh. It tastes much brighter.

Mix everything together and you have the perfect ham salad for lunch and picnics! It’s SO GOOD and easy. You can’t beat this combo!

  1. Legume ham: In a food processor, add the ham and mix until small and crumbly. You can also cut into very small pieces.
  2. Add the ingredients, mix and serve: In a medium bowl, add the ham, eggs, mayonnaise, celery, onion, relish, mustard, salt and pepper, parsley and lemon juice. Mix all ingredients together. Serve with crackers or on sandwich bread.

Variants

One of my favorite things about making a ham salad is that it can be changed every time! Add things, take things out! Really, make it perfect for you!

  • Ham: Use whatever type of ham you have on hand. Whatever you use, chop or shred it to make it easy to spread, spoon, and eat.
  • Nuts: If you want, you can add nuts! Pecans are a classic, but you can substitute them with walnuts, almonds, or cashews. Roast them for a little extra flavor.
  • Mayonnaise: If you are not a fan of mayonnaise, you can use sour cream or fat-free Greek yogurt.
  • Pickles: If you like pickles, try chopping up about ½ cup of dill pickles and adding them to the mixture.

Can I prepare it in advance and freeze it?

Yes! To make sure it’s safe to freeze, do so immediately after preparing it. Put it in an airtight container (labeled with the date) and it can last in your freezer for 1 to 2 months. When you’re ready to eat it, take it out and place it in your fridge to thaw it. Then prepare and indulge yourself!

How to store leftovers

This ham salad will keep for up to 5 days in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Plan ahead and use it for breakfasts all week!
