NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (Lowcountry Weekend) — If you think you can create an award-worthy barbecue sauce, you only have a few months to perfect your recipe.

Small business barbecue sauce entrepreneurs will participate in the “Getting Saucy” barbecue sauce contest scheduled for September 24.

Firefly Distillery has announced the contest in which entrepreneurs of small barbecue sauce businesses will enter and be judged in five categories: Mild Red, Hot Red, Mustard, Vinegar and Specialty.

The winners in each category are rewarded, with one being declared the South Carolina BBQ Sauce Grand Champion.

The festival will feature performances by Lauren Hall, Ben Fagan, the Holy City Hooligans and Lafaye Music; Charleston’s first DJ, Natty Heavy; a cornhole contest, face painting and family activities.

Proceeds will benefit The Arc of the Low Country, a recognized 501c3 organization whose mission is to provide individuals and their families with programs and services for people with physical and intellectual disabilities.

The inaugural contest will take place from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on September 24 at the Firefly Distillery, 4201 Spruill Ave. in North Charleston.
