Owner Patrick Barron has taken a giant leap beyond just being a business owner. His Halleluiah BBQ is the start of an even bigger dream.

A family tradition

Barron’s father and grandfather were master masons, building indoor barbeques for southerners. They also did their fair share of barbecuing for family and friends. Barron came through his cooking skills honestly.

He joined the army and traveled through South and Central America. Back home, he decided to use family recipes and serve a top quality barbecue that his customers – his extended family – would feel right at home.

Old school

When he and his own family moved to the high desert, he looked for a place to open a barbecue restaurant. He passed a building that he thought would be the perfect place. One day he saw a “for rent” sign in the window. As he and the owner stood at the open door talking about his barbecue restaurant plans, a dollar bill arrived and stuck to his shoe.

This dollar is pinned to the wall above the door today. Barron took it as a sign that God had touched the place and had plans for him. Halleluiah BBQ had made money before serving a single meal.

Tempting menus

Halleluiah BBQ serves beef brisket, pulled pork, ribs, short ribs and chicken. The pits start at 3:30 a.m. Barron calls his pits “old fashioned,” using charcoal and mesquite, apple or rosewood logs. Slices of beef, pork, ribs and chicken are scrubbed and put into the pits to cook at 4am. The brisket and pulled pork are “rubbed” for 24 hours before being barbecued.

The menu includes dinner, sandwiches and a la carte dishes. Slabs are also available.

Pulled pork and BBQ chicken dinners start at $13.49. Sandwiches are available from $7.49 with brisket sandwiches for $7.99; sides include macaroni and cheese, coleslaw, potato salad, cornbread, barbecue beans as well as several exceptional, homemade dessert choices including peach cobbler, gooey butter cheese and a German chocolate cheesecake.

Future plans include okra coming this summer as well as sausages, old-fashioned burgers and fried fish. Barron is planning a food truck — his kitchen on a trailer — with smokers and fryers to take to special events.

Still a family business

Barron and his sons Justin and Jason and his cousin Lamont Wooley take care of the chores in the kitchen. Barron’s wife, Myrtes, prepares the desserts. Barron’s “family” includes good friends such as Alien Beef Jerky’s Josh Conway and Anthony’s Pizza Kitchen in Rancho Cucamonga.

It’s all in the sauce

The real star of the menu is the Halleluiah BBQ sauce. The label says it “satisfies the soul”. The sauce is also perfect for dipping and is sweet or spicy. It won fourth place at the 2019 Kansas BBQ World Championship. It’s the topping for Halleluiah BBQ Mac and Cheese. The label also states that it “balances the taste of everything it touches”.

People come from all over the world and place orders with him to send the sauce to them. Her dream, once Halleluiah BBQ Sauce reaches No. 1 in the nation, is to use the proceeds from the sales to build Halleluiah Houses, second-chance homes for vets, single mothers and others.

Order early

Barron often closes before its posted closing time because everything is sold out. This means savvy Halleluiah BBQ customers always win by ordering early.
