Big Weather’s Big Recipe: Pigs in a Blanket

I wasn’t a picky eater as a kid, obviously. But there were things I was really looking forward to eating at my grandmother’s house. One was BBQ burgers, another was homemade pizza night, and there were his piggies in a blanket. This is a very simple recipe and you can make it however you like. I even put a taco tower on one of them. So let’s go !

Ingredients

1 packet of hot dogs (I used Ball Park because that’s what my family always had)

1 box of refrigerated cookies (whichever type is cheaper)

1 jar of dill pickles

1 onion, thinly sliced

American cheese, (or any cheese you like)

A bit of milk

Paprika

Preparation

1. Roll your biscuit flat and lengthwise

2. Slice a hot dog down the middle and place it in the middle of the cookie

3. Add half a slice of American cheese in the middle

4. Add a few small slices of pickle and onion

5. Seal it and place the seal down on your pan

6. Brush with a little milk (or egg wash) and sprinkle with paprika

7. Bake at 350 for 20 minutes

8. Bake until golden and let stand 5-10 minutes before eating

In one, I put Mexican cheese, sautéed the veggies, and topped with taco seasoning. It was really good and gave it a kind of chili dog flavor. I’ve seen this without the cheese but with ketchup and mustard baked inside the bread. I never tried, but you do. Plus, it’s fun to make with the kids because you don’t have to worry about raw meat. And I know it’s not healthy, but it was an occasional meal at Grandma’s, and I’m happy to this day to have those memories. Enjoy!
